I go by the name of Darius James and I am a 20 year old from Pendleton, South Carolina. Music and basketball have always been things I love, but music is definitely my passion. I was in the school band from 5th-8th grade, and I have been recording music since I was 11. Throughout high school my main focus was basketball, but that was shifted to music after I realized I had real potential.
Through my search for music schools, I earned a scholarship to a university in Orlando, Fl. During my senior year I thought that I had the next chapter of my life planned out, but I didn’t receive enough scholarships to be able to go comfortably. SO I PACKED UP MY BAGS AND MOVED TO TEXAS.
My aunt and uncle invited me to come for a year and figure things out, and I was immediately surrounded with amazing people at a great church. I began networking with many CHH artists, but after making no progress with school and work I decided to return home to South Carolina. Thoughts of failure and dissapointment almost caused me to stay, but I’m glad I didn’t because I have grown artistically, personally, and spiritually.
The biggest thing I have learned from the past 3 years is that you have to BE who you are before you BECOME it. A surgeon doesn’t wait until they’ve completed their first operation to call themselves a surgeon. A dentist has to be confident in their skills before they open a practice. So why should I wait until I have millions of plays and validation from others to say that I am an artist?
2019 is part of my journey that will begin to show results of hard work from previous years. I am excited to share my music and myself with all of you, and pray that my music will invite conversations and friendships that will ultimately lead to better relationships with Jesus.
